If someone had asked me ten years ago whether I would become an online tutor, I probably would have laughed.
My career has taken me through corporate management, human resources, training call centre agents, and property management. Teaching wasn't something I accidentally stumbled into—it was something that had quietly been part of my career all along.
I've always enjoyed helping people learn.
When someone finally understands a difficult concept, masters a new skill, or gains confidence in themselves, there's a certain spark that appears. That moment never gets old.
Tutoring has simply allowed me to experience that spark in a much more personal way.
Every student is different.
One student wants to improve their Business English for work. Another is preparing for exams. A Grade 7 learner wants to conquer Afrikaans. An adult student is fascinated by South African culture and wants to understand the language behind it.
No two lessons are ever the same—and that's exactly what I love.
I've also discovered something unexpected.
As tutors, we don't just teach.
We encourage.
We celebrate small victories.
We help students believe they can do something that once felt impossible.
Sometimes the biggest lesson isn't grammar or vocabulary. It's confidence.
And here's my favourite part...
I learn just as much as my students do.
I've travelled the world without leaving my desk, hearing stories about different countries, cultures, traditions, and ways of thinking. Every conversation reminds me that learning never really ends.
So why did I become a tutor?
Not because I planned to.
I became a tutor because helping people grow has always been part of who I am.
I simply found another place where I could do what I love.
And I can't imagine doing anything more rewarding.
