Stop Overthinking: Let’s Make Small Talk Easy

Howard

Have you ever been in a situation where you knew exactly what you wanted to say, but the fear of "making it awkward" kept you quiet?

We often think that "small talk" has to be clever, witty, or perfectly grammatically correct. But here is the secret: Small talk isn't about being impressive; it's about being connected.

I’ve noticed that many of my students feel a lot of pressure to have a "big" story or a complex topic ready to go. But in reality, the best conversations are built on the simplest foundations. Whether it’s talking about the weather, a hobby you just started, or even just how your day is going, the goal is just to keep the ball rolling.

Why I Created "Everyday English Casual Small Talk"

I wanted to create a space that feels less like a classroom and more like a coffee chat. In my class, Everyday English Casual Small Talk, we aren't chasing perfect test scores. Instead, we are practicing:

  • The "Easy Entry": How to start a conversation without feeling like you’re doing a job interview.
  • The Follow-Up Magic: How to keep the other person talking so you don’t have to carry the whole weight of the conversation.
  • Confidence Over Perfection: Learning that it’s okay to say, "I’m not sure how to say this, but..."

Let’s Chat!

If you’ve been looking for a low-pressure way to improve your fluency and—more importantly—feel more comfortable when you’re speaking English, this class is for you.

We can start with the basics, go at your pace, and I promise: we’ll keep it simple, friendly, and fun.

Ready to give it a try? Book a session and let’s start with a simple "Hello!" and see where the conversation takes us.
