Do you have a treasured possession?

Liz English

A treasured possession is something you own that is especially meaningful to you. It doesn't have to be expensive or rare—in fact, many treasured possessions are worth very little money.

Perhaps it's a childhood toy, a handwritten letter, a favourite mug, a concert ticket, a watch that belonged to your grandfather, or a souvenir from a memorable trip. It honestly doesn't matter what the item is: what is important is the meaning it has for you.

Objects can become part of our lives because of the memories attached to them, and every treasured possession has its own story to tell.

As English learners, they also make fantastic conversation topics! When we talk about something that really matters to us, we naturally use lots of useful English:

  • describing objects
  • telling stories
  • talking about memories
  • explaining why something is important
  • expressing emotions and opinions

That's why I've created a new lesson called Show & Tell, where you simply bring one personal item and we'll spend the lesson talking about it. There's no presentation to prepare - just a relaxed conversation centred around something that's special to you.

I'm curious...

What's your treasured possession, and what makes it so special? I look forward to hearing about it in this quick, fun new lesson!
