[My Teaching Philosophy] Why I Prioritize "Conversation" in Every Single Lesson [Part 13]

Megu3

Hello everyone! I'm Meg, living in Taiwan.

It's been raining a lot, making the weather feel so humid and sticky☔️ How is everyone doing?

Now, continuing from last time! Why do I always make sure to include "Conversation (Free Talk) time" in every single lesson (even in listening comprehension classes!)?

The reason is simple... Because for most of the students I've met, their main motivation for learning Japanese is: "I want to be able to speak Japanese when I travel to Japan!"

After all, wanting to talk to locals or enjoy trips even more is often the biggest spark for learning a new language♪

Even though AI and translation apps are incredibly advanced nowadays... the sense of accomplishment you get when speaking a foreign language with your own voice is something technology can never replace!

That's why in my lessons, I use various fun approaches to help students build the courage to speak up:

  • Applying the grammar learned that day to practice expressing thoughts in your own words

  • Watching short videos and discussing group opinions in Japanese

  • Having lively chats about "Japan travel memories" or favorite "anime"!

By building confidence through these fun conversations in class, students grow more comfortable speaking. In fact, many students have excitedly reported back to me: "Teacher! When I went to Japan, I gathered the courage to order food/talk in Japanese!"♪

This is the #1 reason why I prioritize "Conversation (Speaking)" above all else.

I got a little serious this time, didn't I? (haha)

So! Next time, we're shifting gears completely... (haha) I'll be introducing some of the "most memorable and unique students" I've ever taught! Stay tuned!

☕️ A Little Note from Meg "It would be amazing to speak Japanese on my trip!" "I want to try talking without relying on translation apps!" If you feel this way, you are more than welcome! I provide a fun, safe environment where you don't have to fear making mistakes. Grab a drink and join my Free Talk lesson for a relaxed chat!
