Where History Meets the Sierra Morena
Sitting here at a sunlit café table in La Carolina, sipping my morning coffee while the plaza hums to life, I am constantly reminded of how unique our corner of Andalusia truly is. Unlike the winding, medieval alleys typical of the region, our streets follow a precise, 18th-century rationalist grid laid out under King Charles III, stretching outward from the charming Plaza de las Delicias.
Just a short stroll from where I am sitting stands the historic Palacio del Intendente Olavide, a quiet tribute to the grand vision of our founding days. Yet, what makes daily life here so special is the seamless blend of town and wilderness. Just minutes beyond the historic entrance towers, the rugged quartzite gorges and pine-scented breezes of the Despeñaperros Natural Park offer a breathtaking escape into nature.
