Finding Balance: Why I Love Yoga in Japan

Angie T

I have been practicing yoga since I was a university student. When I first started, I was extremely stiff! My body would make all kinds of strange sounds, and I remember feeling embarrassed because I could barely do some of the poses. ??

There were several times when I thought, “Maybe I should stop going to class.”

But I kept practicing, and little by little, my body started to loosen up. I learned that I didn't have to be good at yoga from the beginning. I just had to keep practicing.

I also learned a lot from my teacher, especially breathing and visualization techniques.

Since then, whenever I have the opportunity, I look for new places to practice yoga. In Japan, I have had the chance to practice outdoors in Tokyo and participate in Temple Yoga in both Kyoto and Osaka.

And what could be better than practicing yoga inside a Japanese temple?

Yoga has taught me to be patient, listen to my body, accept that every day is different, and avoid comparing myself with others.

I think language learning is very similar.

You don't become better overnight. You improve little by little by practicing and being patient with yourself.

Whether you're learning yoga or a new language, it's okay if things feel difficult at first. Just keep going. ??

Do you practice yoga, or do you have another activity that helps you relax?

I'd love to hear about your experience! Why not join my Free Talk lesson and tell me about it? ??
