Books have an incredible power to shift our perspective, broaden our horizons, and change how we view the world around us. Today, I want to share a story about a book that completely transformed the way I live my life.
A Chance Discovery in Delhi
Back in the year 2000, while I was based in India, I came across an English copy of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying in a bookshop in Delhi.
The book was written by Sogyal Rinpoche and originally published in 1992 by HarperSanFrancisco (now HarperOne). It was written specifically to translate ancient Tibetan wisdom into clear, accessible modern English.
Picking up that book turned out to be one of the most defining moments of my life. It was hands down the most practical book I have ever read. It completely reshaped how I think about life in general, as well as the end of life. In the Western world, death is so often treated with fear and taboo, but this book showed me why it shouldn't be—after all, it is the most natural thing on the planet.
Understanding the practical side of impermanence removed that fear entirely. The lessons in those pages taught me how to live each day fully, with clarity, peace, and no fear—principles I still live by to this day.
