Lay or Lie??

LAY is an irregular verb meaning to put something down.

Some synonyms of LAY are: put, place, set, deposit, drop, leave, etc.

1. She LAY the baby in his crib.

2. John always LAYS his cell phone down in random places.

3. Robin LAID her late assignment on her professor's desk, hoping he'd still accept it.

LIE is an irregular verb meaning to rest or recline.

Some synonyms of LIE are: recline, rest, lean back, relax, lounge, etc.

1. His body LIES in the crypt.

2. Kerry will LIE in the grass on her days off.

3. The cat has LAIN in that exact spot all of his life.
