Three commonly used British idioms involving delicious foods! - Part 1

2017年9月15日

Many of you may have seen my previous columns containing well known British phrases involving dogs:

and perhaps also my girlfriend Ashley's column about British phrases containing cats:

Well today I am going to start a new series of articles about commonly used British idioms containing food! Many of which are delicious :-)

1. 'To go Bananas/Nuts' - The expression 'to go bananas' or 'to go nuts' refers to someone going crazy or a little bit wild!

Example:

"I don't know what's happened to Robert since he got divorced. He's gone bananas"

2. 'Don't put all of your eggs in one basket' - Putting all of your eggs in one basket means putting all of your faith and efforts into one thing.

Example:

"I am so excited about quitting my job to set up my new modern art business Gary!"

"Make sure you don't put all of your eggs in one basket Michael. You don't know if this is going to work out yet."

3. 'As easy as pie' - This means that something is extremely easy and effortless to do.

Example:

"So Arthur, how did you find your first attempt at riding a bicycle?"

"It's as easy as pie!"

I hope you enjoyed that everyone. There will be more parts to come, as when I prepared to write this column I realised just how many food-related idioms there really are in the UK!

Please keep checking back to read my future columns, and also to follow my pictures of my travels in Japan whilst on a working holiday visa.
