Three commonly used British idioms involving delicious foods! - Part 2

2017年9月19日

Good morning everyone!

I hope you have eaten breakfast because these food related columns may make you feel very hungry! :-)

1. 'Thats the way the cookie crumbles' - This is a classic British phrase which is used to acknowledge that things do not always work out in your favour.

Example:

"I'm so upset I didn't get that new job Michael"

"That's just the way the cookie crumbles"

2. 'To Butter someone up' - To butter someone up, means to praise or flatter someone in order to get something in return.

Example:

"What are doing to try and get this promotion Gary?"

"To start with, I am really buttering up my boss!"

3. 'The apple of my eye' - Telling someone that they are the apple of your eye is like telling them that you love them, and that they are extremely important and special to you.

"Katherine darling, I love you. You are the apple of my eye"

I hope you are enjoying these columns and salivating at the thought of all the delicious foods they involve!
