“Where Is It? Let’s Learn Prepositions!”

Lesson Objective:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
Understand and use six basic prepositions
Describe the location of objects using short sentences
Practice listening, speaking, and movement
Target Vocabulary & Phrases:
PrepositionExample Sentence
in:The ball is in the box.
on: The cat is on the table.
under:The shoes are under the bed.
next to:The dog is next to the chair.
behind:The toy is behind the door.
In between: The bed is in between the walls.
🎯 Lesson Plan (Step-by-Step)
1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Show flashcards of each preposition with cute pictures (e.g., rabbit under box)
Let them guess: “Where is the rabbit?”
2. Teach & Repeat (10 minutes)
Use simple visuals (PowerPoint, props, or toys)
🧸 Example: Use a rabbit and a box
“rabbit is in the box.” (repeat 2x, then student repeats)
“rabbit is on the box.”
( I will use a cut out of a rabbit picture and a small box prop I have at home)
Do this for all prepositions
Ask:
“Where is the rabbit?”
Let the student answer with the phrase: “It is on the box.”
3. Practice with pictures and questions. (10 minutes)
Option A – Movement Game (if online with camera):
Ask student to put a toy in different places
👉 “Put your toy under your chair.”
👉 “Put it on your head.”
Then they say: “It is under the chair!”
Option B – Drawing Game:
Share a simple worksheet or ask them to draw a table, a box, a ball, etc.
Give commands: “Draw the ball under the table.”
Then ask: “Where is the ball?” → “It’s under the table.”
4. Wrap-Up & Review (5 minutes)
Show mixed flashcards or ask: “Where is it?”
(will use the same bunny pictures, i will just cover the key words)
Student says: “It is next to the…”
Praise effort: 🎉 “Good job! You used prepositions perfectly!”
Optional Homework:
Ask the student to take a picture of their toy in, on, or under something at home and send it with the sentence.
