Free Talk Lesson for Intermediate Learners
Objective: To enhance conversational skills and fluency in English through free talk on various topics.
Materials Needed:
Shared document for note-taking
Introduction (5 minutes):
Greet the learner and engage in small talk to create a comfortable environment.
Briefly discuss the purpose of the lesson: to practice speaking skills, improve fluency, and build confidence in spontaneous conversations.
Warm-Up Activity (5 minutes):
Ask the learner to share one interesting thing that happened to them recently.
Share your own experience as a model.
Encourage the use of descriptive vocabulary and expressions.
Main Activity - Free Talk (15 minutes):
Topic Selection (2 minutes):
Present a list of diverse topics for discussion (e.g., travel, technology, hobbies, culture).
Allow the learner to choose a topic that interests them the most.
Discussion (12 minutes):
Set a timer for 6 minutes for each participant (Tutor and the learner).
Discuss the chosen topic freely, encouraging the use of vocabulary and expressions.
During the conversation,tutor take notes on areas of improvement, noteworthy phrases, or grammar points for later feedback.
Feedback and Language Focus (5 minutes):
Provide Positive Feedback (2 minutes):
Highlight specific strengths and positive aspects of the learner's conversation.
Reinforce good language use and pronunciation.
Address Areas for Improvement (2 minutes):
Discuss any observed challenges or areas where improvement is needed.
Provide alternative vocabulary or expressions for enhancement.
Language Focus Activity (1 minute):
Choose one specific language aspect (e.g., phrasal verbs, idioms, pronunciation) and practice a few examples together.
Closure (5 minutes):
Summarize key takeaways from the lesson.
Encourage the learner to reflect on their progress and set goals for the next session.
Discuss potential topics for the next free talk session.
Homework (Optional):
Assign a short writing task related to the discussed topic for the learner to submit before the next session.
