The history, similarities and differences among the over 62 languages spoken in Kenya

'Hakuna Matata' is a famous phrase all over the world. Did you know that 'Hakuna Matata' is in Swahili, one of the official languages of Kenya? Each of the 62 languages spoken in Kenya has it's unique history. The languages are grouped into four main distinctive groups with each group moving into Kenya from different entry points. One group from the North and East, another from North and West, another from West and South and another used the Indian Ocean as their entry point.
This lesson will guide you to learn how these factors have contributed to the languages' similarities and differences, how despite the differences Kenyans have co-exsisted and how a main language spoken in Africa was born from the interaction of different languages.
