Time for German - Zeit für Deutsch 2 Lessons

Welcome to Time for German – my 100-lesson German scheme of work designed to take learners from complete beginner to pre-intermediate level while having lots of fun along the way!

For the last five years, I have taught Time for German online for thousands of teaching hours, continually developing, testing and fine-tuning the programme with learners from around the world. I am now very excited to bring the complete Time for German programme to Cafetalk!

The aim of these lessons is for us to work through my complete Time for German programme together. Each lesson builds the learner's vocabulary, understanding and confidence, gradually progressing towards increasingly independent use of German.

I teach the lessons using basic, easy-to-understand English alongside the German we are learning. This means that learners can practise German while also hearing and using English with a native English-speaking teacher – a great opportunity to learn German while reinforcing their English at the same time.

Complete beginners can start right at the beginning with 'Time for German 101'. However, if you already have some knowledge of German, you do not necessarily need to start at Lesson 1. We can find an appropriate starting point within the programme and continue from there.

My lessons are primarily designed for children, particularly learners aged approximately 7–12. However, adults are also very welcome! Please just be aware that the programme was created for children, so the lessons are colourful, fun and sometimes a little silly. If you're an adult who is happy to learn German in this way, I'd be delighted to teach you too.

Time for German begins with simple vocabulary and sentences, but across the 100 lessons we gradually introduce more complex language, reading, grammar, verbs, stories and increasingly independent speaking.

Before each lesson, I will provide a printable vocabulary sheet, as well as additional activities such as crosswords, word searches and translation tasks. Many of my students create their own Time for German folder where they keep their lesson sheets and activities for reference and revision. After your first enrolment, I will also provide a folder cover and programme checklist so that you can tick off the lessons as we complete them together.

Throughout my many years of teaching German, students have often told me that my lessons feel "easy", even when the learning objectives are quite ambitious. This is exactly what I aim for. I want learners to make significant progress without German feeling difficult or intimidating.

Before becoming an online teacher, I worked as a Primary School Teacher and MFL Lead in the UK. I was also my school's Cooperative Learning Lead, and I use this experience to make my lessons engaging, interactive and accessible.

During our 1-to-1 lessons, I will use colourful slides, games, questions, stories and activities to introduce and practise new German. I ask lots of carefully structured questions, helping learners progress from individual words to phrases and then to complete functional sentences. Because the lessons are 1-to-1, I can adapt the pace and level to the individual learner and give them plenty of opportunities to speak German with me.

Time for German 101 – 16 lessons
An introduction to German for beginners.

Time for German 102 – 16 lessons
Building vocabulary, sentences and confidence.

Time for German 103 – 48 lessons
A much larger stage incorporating reading, verbs and my Grimm German Grammar lessons through stories including Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty and The Frog Prince.

Time for German 104 – 20 lessons
Becoming a German Speaker. At this stage, the focus increasingly moves towards independent German. Learners work towards creating their own German monologues of up to a minute, using the vocabulary and grammar they have developed throughout the programme.

That's 100 lessons altogether – and my hope is that we can work our way through them together!
