课程介绍

A conversation about the news

Aim of the lesson: to improve the student's speaking and reading fluency, while improving their pronunciation and vocabulary.

Setting: we will be reading an article from the BBC (bbc.co.uk) about the headline news of the day.

Task 1: student will read the title of the article and I will ask the student their knowledge about the subject in the news.

Task 2: (speaking/pronunciation) student will read out loud the first paragraph of the text. After each sentence completed, I will correct the student's pronunciation over any mispronounced words. Additionally we will go over and learn any new vocabulary the student finds in the text.

Task 3: (reading/vocabulary) student will read the rest of the text by themself. We will again go through any new vocabulary the student finds in the text. After having finished the reading, I will ask the student specific questions about the text to check their comprehension (e.g: what does the first paragraph describe? What does the expression "cut to the chase" mean in the second paragraph?

Task 4: (speaking) I will ask the student to express their opinion about the article. By trying their express their opinion/arguments, the student will gain critical practise in their speaking skills, and we will be able to a relaxed conversation about the topic we have been analysing since the beginning of the lesson.

Extra: (listening) If we finish the 4 tasks before the 50 minutes end, we will watch a short video about the news we have been reading/talking about, and the student will practise their listening skills.
