Many English learners grapple with phrasal verbs. No wonder! There are thousands of these little gems, and they can be confusing because their meaning is not always obvious from the individual words. Plus, the same phrasal verb can have many different meanings! The good news? Native speakers use them all the time, and once you start to recognise them, they become much easier to understand and use.
In this lesson, we explore some of the most common everyday phrasal verbs and what they really mean in context.
Lesson format:
- What phrasal verbs do you know? An activity to switch on your pre-existing knowledge!
- Matching activity: match conversation questions containing phrasal verbs with cartoons.
- Speaking activity: use the phrasal verbs in conversation.

Ideal for pre-intermediate to intermediate students.
Upper-intermediate and advanced students – if you would like to focus on more challenging phrasal verbs, let me know your level when you request the lesson and I will adjust the lesson to suit you.
