In spanish every single noun has a genre and can also have number and the article attached to that noun must have the same conditions.
How to know what nouns are femenine or masculine?
Simple rules.
Words ending in E can be feminine or masculine (there’s no rule)
Nouns and adjectives ending in consonant tend to be masculine, they become feminine by adding A
