Learn new catchy business idioms and phrases

课程介绍

This lesson is suitable for advanced learners of English

Would you like to add more vocabulary to your English business talk? Do you find yourself not fully understanding your associates during meetings and presentations because you lack knowledge of business idioms? Many Americans especially use business lingo. Some of these phrases are more known than others. However, it is a good idea to examine what you need to expand on. Have you heard  of the expression "bring something to the table" or "carve out a niche for a product" or "closing up shop"? If you have not, it is time to take this 50 minute lesson! You probably will not be able to follow a business conversation with an American if you lack the basics of business expressions.

Some of the expressions that we will examine, define, and create own own dialogues with will be useful for many business environments, including marketing, accounting, finance, management, and administration.

Here is a list of some of these expressions:

banker's hours

- short work hours (similar to a bank)

My friend owns his own company and works banker's hours most days.

bankroll someone

- to supply someone with money, to finance someone

The movie actor bankrolled his son while the son was producing his first movie.

bean counter

- an accountant

We asked the bean counters to look at the figures in the new budget.

big cheese/gun/wheel

- an important person, a leader

The new director was a big wheel/ cheese in his previous company.

And the list goes on and on.....
