Situation Navigation moves beyond simply knowing English. Students learn how to use English to handle situations, solve problems, and communicate appropriately.

Description

Situation Navigation

Use English to think, respond, and navigate more complex situations

Recommended Level & Readiness

Target: Strong junior-high students and above
Prerequisite: Students will be required to brainstorm and share their own ideas and be self-starters. It is strongly recommended that students take previous courses and a trial lesson before beginning this one.
Recommended level: Approximately EIKEN Grade 3 or equivalent

Students should be comfortable reading lesson materials, producing their own ideas, and participating actively without relying entirely on model answers.

Navigate Realistic Situations

Lessons are built around realistic scenarios, structured roleplays, and communication tasks. Students may need to solve a problem, respond to another person's opinion, make a suggestion, explain a choice, or adapt when a situation changes.

The goal is to move beyond short, predictable answers and help students produce longer sentences and more detailed responses independently.

More Advanced English

Students continue developing their grammar while also learning more advanced vocabulary, expressions, and sentence structures.

Language areas may include:

  • conditional sentences
  • causative and passive structures
  • present perfect
  • phrasal verbs and more advanced vocabulary
  • comparisons and relative clauses
  • softening complaints and discussing appropriate behavior
  • explaining rumors, opinions, and uncertain information
  • combining ideas into longer, more complex sentences

Think, Choose & Respond

At this level, there may not always be one correct answer. Students are expected to consider the situation, generate their own ideas, explain their reasoning, and respond to follow-up questions.

Activities gradually become more complex and give students greater freedom to decide what they want to say and how they want to say it.

Building Independence

Students will be expected to speak actively and use previously learned vocabulary and grammar in new situations. I provide support when necessary, but students are increasingly encouraged to formulate their own responses rather than depend on prompts or model sentences.

For students who are ready to move beyond practicing English and start using it to navigate real situations.
