Develop longer, more confident, and more thoughtful communication
Recommended Level & Readiness
Prerequisite: A trial lesson or completion of prior courses is required.
Recommended level: Approximately EIKEN Grade 2 or equivalent
Students should already be able to express their own ideas in English and participate actively in lessons without relying mainly on short or memorized answers.
From Speaking to Discussion
Lessons combine practical speaking skills, role-plays, decision-making tasks, and age-appropriate discussions.
Students learn how to organize their thoughts, support an opinion, respond to others' ideas, ask follow-up questions, and participate naturally in longer conversations.
Communication Skills
Lessons may include practice with:
- agreeing and disagreeing naturally
- interrupting politely and responding to others
- comparing ideas and showing contrast
- explaining advantages and disadvantages
- making decisions and reaching agreement
- giving reasons and supporting opinions
- offering help, suggestions, and possible solutions
- organizing longer spoken responses
Discussion & Problem-Solving Tasks
Students may discuss topics such as peer pressure, tradition and technology, school or community problems, and difficult choices.
Other lessons may involve creating a plan or proposal, comparing several possibilities, designing an unusual school trip, or working together with the teacher to reach a final decision.
Active Participation
Students are expected to speak actively, explain their reasoning, and react to what the other person says.
The goal is to move beyond answering individual questions and develop the ability to maintain a discussion, explore an idea in greater depth, and communicate with increasing independence.
For students ready to move beyond conversation and engage in real discussions.
