Due to the avobe-mentioned reason, some people ended up not going to Japan. I can help you to make a plan for travelling Japan with a cheap & a convenient way.

My Comment:
One of my hobbies is travelling. Most of my friends admit that I can make a good plan for travelling because I know how to search famous places & hidden places. Also, I'm good at making a timetable for travelling. I could suggest your trip plan depending on your request.
Importantly, I'm from Kyoto which is famous for historical buildings located in the west area of Japan. I've never been to Tohoku region. Please keep in your mind.
