English Pronunciation Technical Lesson

A focused, techincal 1-on-1 pronunciation lesson, consisting of an opening 10-15 minute technique warm-up, followed by 30 minutes of guided conversation practice, and a wrap-up session.
The 10-15 minute technical warm-up will consist of short repeated exercises on fundamental elements of English diction required for native-level pronunciation. These exercises would be chosen based on the students' needs. For a Japanese speaker, this might include continued exercise the muscles and motions that are required for the [θ] phoneme in words like "both" [boθ] or "think" [θɪnk]. We will discuss detailed descriptions of which muscles are required to make this sound accurately. This section can also include some discussion about the differences that exist between similar Japanese phonemes (often [s] and in some rare cases [ɸ], as in ふぐ ['ɸugu]). We can use those difference can help them better achieve the θ sound.
The 30-minutes conversation section consists of practical speaking by the student, with real-time corrections from the teacher. Spoken repertoire in this section should include a mix of text supplied by the teacher that's read aloud, as well as impromptu conversation with the teacher.
A short wrap-up at the end of the session lets the student know what we worked on, and what they can practice before the next session.
