課程介紹
Are you an advanced speaker confident in your English proficiency wanting to test it out? And are you tired of unstructured conversation classes? Join me in exploring the wonderful world of English literature and accelerate your English fluency.
In this specialised two-part masterclass, we explore figures of speech through poetry. By analysing Oscar Wilde's classic master poem The Ballad of Reading Gaol, we travel through the dramatic narrative arc together.
This class follows only two of the 109 stanzas in the poem! Even so, through line-by-line breakdowns we uncover the hidden meanings behind his words.
What you will learn
- Deep narrative context: We unpack who Oscar Wilde was and how his life gave birth to his tragic works. Through that we understand how life and literature collide.
- Advanced literary and language devices: You learn how to identify and use high level concepts like metonymies and juxtapositions. These especially come in handy when conversing with native speakers because we use them in everyday language without even thinking about the details.
-Vocabulary expansion: You will master practical vocabulary terms that are still used today. We also look at how the meanings of words change and how to identify the context of a word that is usually used elsewhere.
-Fluency: By understanding how literature translates to real-world scenarios, you can master phonetic rhythm and build confidence.
