✈️ Lesson 1 – At the Airport

Level: Beginner to Lower-Intermediate (Adults / Business ESL)
Time: 25 minutes
Focus: Travel vocabulary + sentence making + free talk

1. Warm-up (3 minutes)

Ask:

  • Have you traveled by plane before?

  • Where was your last trip?

  • Do you like airports?

Short sharing.

2. Vocabulary Introduction (5 minutes)

Basic words

  • Airport

  • Terminal

  • Check-in counter

  • Boarding pass

  • Passport

  • Gate

Travel words

  • Layover

  • Connecting flight

  • Carry-on

  • Baggage / Luggage

  • Visa

  • Security check

  • Immigration

  • Customs

  • Carousel (baggage claim)

  • Delayed / Cancelled

*** Ask which one is not familiar

Explain simply with examples:

  • I have a connecting flight in Seoul.

  • My luggage is on the carousel.

3. Sentence Making (5 minutes)

Ask student to make simple sentences using the new words.

Examples to show:

  • I have a layover in Singapore.

  • My flight is delayed.

  • I only have a carry-on bag.

  • I showed my passport at immigration.

Correct gently.

4. Free Talk – Travel Experience (10 minutes)

Guide questions:

  • Have you ever missed a flight?

  • Have you experienced a long delay?

  • Have you lost your luggage before?

  • Which airport do you like the most?

  • Which country do you want to visit next?

Encourage storytelling:

  • delays

  • lost baggage

  • immigration experience

  • funny or stressful moments

5. Useful Expressions (Optional Add-on)

Teach practical phrases:

  • Where is the check-in counter?

  • What gate is my flight?

  • My flight has been delayed.

  • I missed my connecting flight.

  • Where can I claim my baggage?

6. Wrap-up (2 minutes)

Review:

  • Ask 3–5 quick vocab questions
