Vocabulary and conversation class for higher level students. Learn the language of fashion and offer opinions.
課程介紹
Aim: For the student to converse with ease and articulacy, reproduce structures and phrases from the text when speaking, and deduce meaning of vocabulary from its context and from the accompanying photos.
I don't claim to be a dedicated follower of fashion but I do agree with the old adage 'clothes maketh the man', and I certainly believe that clothes and fashion make for very interesting conversation.
As we browse pictures of latest trends and collections both in the UK and elsewhere you'll be speaking at length, giving me your opinions and observations...
'I wouldn't be seen dead wearing that!
'Gorgeous, but it wouldn't suit...'
'I think you'd have to be... to pull off that look'
As well as chatting you'll be learning the unique language-within-a-language that is fashion journalism. Fashion writing uses some very interesting expressions and at times almost seems like a special dialect of English! Take this clothes description for example: 'an eco-conscious wardrobe of pared-down classics in muted tones'. Such writing along with photo galleries of eye-catching clothes should make this class a fun and fascinating study of English for higher level students.
Our lessons will use articles and images from the British media. You don't need to be an expert (I'm certainly not!) nor a slave to the latest trends to join this class, just very keen on speaking and the use of English.
