MAYUKOSUGI Tutor Interview

Q. Hi MAYUKOSUGI! Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. May we ask you to briefly introduce yourself?

A. Nice to meet you! My name is Mayuko, and this is my third year teaching on Cafetalk. I have also been teaching at an English conversation school for 15 years. I was actually terrible at English when I was a student, and only started studying English seriously when I became a working adult. I have also experienced a working holiday in Canada.

Q. Please tell us more about your hometown and the area where you currently reside.

A. I am originally from Ibaraki prefecture, but I currently work in Saitama and Tokyo.

Q. What motivated you to become a tutor on Cafetalk?

A. I was interested in the opportunity to interact with various students from all over the country and the world through online lessons.

Q. What are you usually up to when you're not teaching on Cafetalk? What are your hobbies and interests?

A. When I am not teaching lessons, I like to hang out with my dog, watch overseas dramas, overseas cooking shows, and read recipe books because I also enjoy cooking.

My interests include watching sports, going to Disney amusement parks, and watching musicals.

Q. A lot of students are probably curious about the atmosphere in your lessons. What can a student imagine a lesson with you to be like? What’s your teaching style?

A. As with anything, I believe that consistency is the key, so I try to make my lessons fun and educational with the motto, "if it's not fun, you won’t be able to continue." I am particularly excited to share the joy of learning English with those who feel insecure about English and who, like me, struggled with English during their student years.

Q. Which lessons would you recommend to your students?

A. I recommend my conversational English lessons and oral training for absolute beginners.

In my conversational lessons, we will start by learning basic greetings, and carefully practice them one by one.

I recommend this method to those who are not good at listening yet, and those who want to make use of it for their upcoming TOEIC, EIKEN, or any other qualification test.

Q. Finally, would you like to leave a message for your current and future students?

A. I am blessed to have so many wonderful students, and I enjoy teaching lessons to all of you. I myself have been able to learn a lot from my own students who come from various backgrounds and all ages.

Thank you so much for your support!

Since learning a new language takes time and effort, I believe that it is important to have a good relationship with your teacher in order to be able to continue learning for a long period of time. Please feel free to start by taking a counseling session with me, so that you can see if I am the right teacher for you.
