Hello! I'm Valerie — your friendly English tutor from South Africa

Welcome to my Cafetalk page! I'm so glad you stopped by. My name is Valerie Hakutangwi, a TEFL-certified English tutor based in Johannesburg, South Africa, with over 7 years of experience helping students of all ages and backgrounds grow their English skills with confidence.

Whether you're just starting out or looking to polish your fluency, I'd love to be part of your learning journey!

✨ A Little About Me

I'm not just a tutor — I'm also a proud stay-at-home mum to a curious and lively one-year-old! Teaching from home means I get to do what I love while being present for my family. I genuinely enjoy connecting with students from all over the world and watching them grow lesson by lesson.

I'm also currently studying towards a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, so I bring both a love for learning and a comfort with technology into every online session.

My Qualifications

120-Hour TEFL Certification, Diploma in Engineering Technology — Damelin, South Africa BSc Information Technology (In Progress) — International Open University

I believe every student learns differently — and I take the time to understand your goals before we begin. My lessons are encouraging, practical, and always tailored to you. I create a warm, judgement-free environment where making mistakes is part of the process, not something to be afraid of.

A Note of Transparency — Please Read!

I want to be completely honest with you: I teach from home, and I have an active one-year-old. While I do my best to schedule lessons during nap times or quieter moments, there may be rare occasions where my little one makes a brief appearance or some background noise occurs. 

I believe in open and honest communication with my students, and most people find it completely understandable! If this is something you're comfortable with, I'd love to welcome you into my virtual classroom. I always ensure that lessons remain focused, productive, and valuable for you.
