Who am I?
Hello, my name is Gaetano, but please call me Guy.
『ナイスガイのGUYまたは外人のGUY!』
I work professionally here in Japan as an Actor, Narrator, Clown, Magician, Fire Artist and Creative Consultant. You may know me from my many TV CMs like my role as “Mr CC Lemon”, as “Mr Clark” on Benesses’s “World Wide Kids” DVD series or as a former co-host of NHK Radio’s “Kiso Eigo 3”. My hobbies include DIY, gardening, cooking and helping people in need. I have led a very interesting life and I hope to inspire and empower people to be confident and outgoing!
My Teaching Experience
I am not a formally trained English teacher, but I was the co-host of NHK Radio's "Kiso-Eigo 3" for 2 years and I have 10 years of experience as a children's English "teacher" with a popular Disney licensed company in Japan that provides lessons over the telephone (the lessons are interactive using music and conversation). I also have an extensive background as teacher and coach of content creation and creativity as well as circus skills & performance for private clients and companies.
My Training & Qualifications
I hold a BA in Theater and Acting from San Francisco State University, I am a graduate of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College and I did an extensive apprenticeship and National USA tours with the world-renowned San Francisco Mime Troup. I am currently working as a creative director and consultant for a Tokyo based advertising and marketing company and also as a freelance variety entertainer, actor, and narrator.
My Motivations
I love helping people and as a natural born communicator, I feel that I am a good listener who can help empower confidence in medium to advanced level ESL speakers while also having a lot of fun.
My Profile
I grew up in Southern California in a suburb near Los Angeles. After graduating High School, I moved to Israel where I lived for a year. Next, I lived in Alaska where I worked as a cook in a gold mine. I then attended University in San Francisco where I got my BA degree in Theatre and Acting. While in San Francisco, I did an extensive apprenticeship with the San Francisco Mime Troupe - the foremost political Theatre company in the world. The Troupe’s base style is not Pantomime, rather it is a combination of Italian Renaissance Commedia dell'arte, American Melodrama and Musical Theater. After performing with the Troupe all across the USA, I attended and graduated from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. Soon thereafter I was offered a job performing in Tokyo and I have lived here off and on for a total of 17 out of the past 25 years. I work in all areas of the entertainment business and also as a creative consultant. I love gardening, cooking and doing all kind of DIY projects. I have been enjoyed studying Japanese here at Cafetalk so much that I’ve decided to become a teacher myself!
Simply put, I’m a nice guy and I love helping people. My goal here is to offer interesting, useful and fun lessons. I am very good at both patiently listening and providing clear complete explanations. I will always gently correct you, but I will never judge you. I have been in the entertainment/communication business for many years and I believe that I can offer you insightful and creative support that will help you to increase your confidence and take your English skills to the next level!
I would like to offer a special set of classes targeted at intermediate to advanced English speakers. My classes are open to all English speakers, but I also offer more specialized lessons for people who are interested in public speaking and/or performance. The topics my classes will cover include: casual chat, slang words and expressions, acting, storytelling, English for Magicians and also, the rather strange but useful, “Arguing in English”. Please check out my unique classes and their descriptions and feel free to contact me with any questions or special requests.
