Hello! I’m Marc, a CELTA-certified, native English speaker committed to lifelong learning and development. I hold degrees in chemical engineering and law, have studied 3D graphics, and have worked in several different fields, including international law, banking, hospitality, and manufacturing. I am excited to draw on all these experiences to help you achieve your English language goals!
Teaching style:
Expect sessions to be well-structured and tailored to your pace and learning goals. Lessons will be challenging enough to stretch you without overwhelming you. They will build on your experience and target the specific areas you want to improve. Conversation lessons will follow a scaffolded, task-based approach: we begin with short, structured mini activities that give you immediate feedback, then move to the main communicative task – a role play or other interactive activity. Feedback for the main task is given only after you finish, allowing you to stay fully immersed in the conversation. After reviewing your performance, we will repeat the main task, giving you another chance to apply some targeted improvements.
I consider these sessions a safe place to make mistakes. The more you engage, practice, and experiment with me, the better we can target improvement areas and boost your confidence using English effectively in situations relevant to you. Think of our conversation lessons as language labs, where we experiment with English elements to understand how they fit together and can be used meaningfully in unscripted situations.
I usually combine audio and video, especially for conversation practice, but if you prefer audio-only, that is perfectly fine. Please just let me know your preference before the lesson.
A bit more about me:
I am a dual national of the United States and New Zealand, but I grew up primarily in the U.S., so I speak American English. I have lived in several countries around the world – most recently Cambodia, Rwanda, and Vietnam – and I am familiar with using English in multicultural work environments.
I am a keen reader, love hiking and being outdoors, and enjoy watching competition climbing – seeing a World Cup event live in Seoul was a 2023 highlight!
Now that you have navigated to the end of this introduction, if you are ready to continue your English language journey, please send me a message and we'll map out a custom plan together!
