Find your voice in English
Hello, I am Phathu, an English teacher from South Africa. I help learners who feel shy about speaking English become more comfortable using it in everyday conversations.
You may know the words but struggle to say them aloud. You may understand a grammar rule but feel unsure how to use it when speaking. We can start where you are and practise together, one step at a time.
About me
I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Physiology and Genetics, and a 120-hour TEFL certificate. I have over two years of experience teaching English online, as well as classroom teaching experience.
I have taught learners from South Korea, Japan, and China. Getting to know learners with different goals has taught me to listen first and adjust how I teach to suit the person in front of me.
What can we work on?
With children aged 4–8, I use pictures, props, games, and repetition to practise letter sounds, new words, and simple sentences. Children aged 9–12 can practise speaking about familiar things, such as their day, hobbies, and interests.
With teenagers and adults, we can practise everyday conversation, pronunciation, and expressing ideas more clearly. If you make a mistake or cannot find a word, there is no need to feel embarrassed. I will give you time, help you find another way to say it, and practise it with you.
Outside teaching, I enjoy painting and creating art. I am proudly Venda, and I enjoy learning about other people’s cultures too. I would love to hear about yours.
