About Me:
My name is Sterling or Teacher Sterl and I am a native English speaker from the United States of America. I currently live in Orlando, Florida, which is home to the amazing Walt Disney World theme parks! I have a background in social work with an M.A. from the University of Central Florida and hold a 120-hour TEFL certification. I am passionate about helping people confidently have conversations about English and sharing cultural knowledge. From everyday conversations to the use of English in everyday tasks - such as ordering or cooking food, booking a hotel - I can help you reach your goals in an open and stress-free environment!
With my experience in education and social work, I understand how people learn and how to make lessons engaging and student-focused. One of the things that makes me stand out from other tutors is my knowledge of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) or slang, as most call it. Just like I enjoy learning about different cultures, I also love sharing my cultural background! I also cover other topics such as English for cooking, English for travel, or even daily conversational lessons and grammatical structures.
My lessons are suitable for the following learners:
I am also currently learning Brazilian Portuguese, so I know what it's like to learn a different language with its joys and challenges.
