Hi there, my name is Joe and I’m from the U.K.


I have been teaching for over ten years, including five years as an English teacher. In 2018 I started working in junior high schools as an ALT, and I have been teaching TOEIC English online since October 2021.


I love teaching, and especially 1-1 lessons. It’s wonderful to talk with students who are motivated and excited to learn English.


My strongest areas are:

  • Junior high school age. I spent 3 years teaching these students in Japan, so I am very familiar with what and how they learn.
  • TOEIC speaking. I have been training students for the TOEIC speaking and listening test for 6 months.
  • Writing and storytelling. I have a Master’s degree in screenwriting, and have been working as a freelance writer and proofreader since 2017.
  • British English. I am from Coventry, England and speak with an easy British accent.

My lessons include:

  • NEW Read Harry Potter (and other kids books)
  • Describe a picture
  • Propose a solution
  • Express an opinion
  • Read a passage aloud
  • Respond to questions
  • Respond to questions using information provided
  • Writing correction and analysis
  • English for junior high school students
  • Storytelling in English
  • Let’s talk about cultural differences!

My teaching style is relaxed and my lessons are very playful. I like my students to use English and encourage this as much as possible. I can speak Japanese to a conversational level but do not use it in my lessons unless a student requests this. 


In my spare time I love writing and making videos. As I went to film school, I am very interested in films and filmmaking. I love Japanese culture, and I am currently writing a book about it. If you like, we can talk about some cultural differences between Japan and the U.K.!
