Hello, I’m Karsten. Nice to meet you.

こんにちは、カールステンです。どうぞよろしく、お願いします。


Welcome to my language lessons in Norwegian or German. I’m a native speaker of German and I’ve been living in Norway for more than 30 years. I’m a professional teacher of social science and ethics. In recent years I have done language studies in both Norwegian, German and Japanese. I really love languages!


I like my language lessons to be both interesting and educational. Language learning should be fun and usefull for your everyday situation, as a student, as a tourist or as en employee. I will try to give you feedback that helps you to reach the next level of language skills.


I have a been teaching languages for about ten years now. I started as a teacher of Norwegian as a second language, but in recent years I’ve also been teaching my native language, German.


Language learning is a great way to get closer to both people and a country as a whole. I’ve experienced this myself traveling i Japan with the little Japanese language I’ve learned. Hopefully you will experience the same with my lessons of Norwegian or German.


My teaching style emphasizes talking and listening. I my Cafetalk-lessons you will get the opportunity til try out your language skills, without stress. I think this is the best way to improve. In addition I will provide you with teaching materials, according to your level. This may be texts, exercises, audiofiles or videos.


In addition to the language, culture is something to consider. In my lessons you can learn more about what is common when people meet, in Germany or in Norway. This is valuable knowledge when you put your language skills into use in everyday or business situations or as a visitor or tourist.


Feel free to book a trial lesson and see if you are comfortable with my style of language teaching. I’m looking foreward to meet you as a student.

If you want to learn something more about me as a person, please read the following lines:

In my leasure time, I like to do hikes in the mountains surrounding the city of Trondheim, where I'm residing. In summer time, I also like rowing or sailing on the Trondheim Fjord. In the tourist season, I have a part time job as a tourist guide, and I present our beautiful old city to tourist from all the world on guided tours in English and German. Would you like to have a look at my home city? You can watch a video about it on the top of this presentation.

Right now I have a part time jobb as a language teacher for working immigrants in Norway. What motivates me as a language teacher is to see students getting more and more confident as language users. It's rewarding for me to hear that students can find out of new situations, as their language skills are growing.
I believe in listening, talking and dialoging are the most powerfull activities if you want to learn a language. But, of course, one needs to do some studying in adition.


Learning a language is part of cultural exchanges, which I’m very interested in. We've been hosting foreign exchange students in my home for more than five years. Four of these were Japanese senior high school students, so I got curious about Japanese language and culture. I started studying these subjects for some years ago, and do speak some elementary Japanese now.
