Hello! I have two names, so you can call me "Candice" or "Nina", whichever you prefer. I am Japanese-American and both Japanese and English are my native languages, so I can adapt my lessons based on how confident you are in speaking Japanese.

【Brief personal history】
  • I was born in Tokyo and attended the American School in Japan from kindergarten to high school graduation. Afterward, I flew to Canada (Vancouver), obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Systems from the University of British Columbia, and worked in academia and nonprofit organizations. In the fall of 2023, I moved back to Japan for the first time in 15 years with my husband, whom I met in Vancouver.
  • I received my Certified Professional Career Coach (CPCC) designation from the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches in May 2023. In January 2024, I received my Certified Empowerment and Motivational Professional (CEMP) designation.
  • I enjoyed drawing pictures since I was little, and I continue to draw illustrations (like the lesson thumbnails).
【Teaching Style】
  • Please don't hesitate to let me know if you want feedback on your Japanese pronunciation. But there's no need to fixate on it either - the most important thing is for you to get your message across.
  • I will refer to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) chart in pronunciation lessons because it is so useful!
  • I try to incorporate the philosophy of coaching into my lessons, so my lessons involve talking about a given subject rather than following a textbook. I will encourage you to move forward toward the goals you have set for yourself.
I look forward to speaking with you!
