我是先天性聽障人士。（聽障人士→幾乎或完全無法聽見聲音的人）。我的母語是日本手語，但在路上或工作場合時常需要以聲音對話，必要時會請手語翻譯者協助。我至今已從事日本厚生勞動省的手語服務員培訓課程講師，以及全國手語檢定測驗面試官 4 年。我最近發覺戲劇中更常出現手語，以及因為去年的「Silent」電視節目與佳子公主的手語演講，想學習手語的人正在增加中。草薙主演的手語戲劇也在今年 10 月上映了。以前大家通常是「為了幫助聽障者而學習手語」，現在反而有許多人「因為興趣而學習手語」。詢問他們學習原因時，他們回答「學習手語後，我了解到與人面對面交談的重要性」「學習到透過臉部表情表達的重要性」。不論聽力如何，如果能讓大家透過學習手語認知到「溝通的重要性」，我一定會感到喜不自勝。身為一位講師，我時常聽到這樣的煩惱：「想學習手語，但身邊沒有人能應用」。手語母語者非常稀少。先天性聽障者大約只佔全日
