Profilo di Shuni
Hello and Welcome!
Thank you for visiting my profile.
I teach Indonesian, Japanese, adn English, but before talking about my lessons, I'd like to tell you a little about myself.
I was born and raised in Indonesia in an English-speaking family, so English and Indonesian have both been part of my life since childhood. Later, I studied Japanese Language and Literature at university and eventually built a career that allowed me to use all three languages every day.
My Teaching Journey
Teaching has been an important part of my life for many years.
I have taught Japanese, English, and Indonesian at universities, in private lessons, in group courses, and in online classrooms. Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with students of different ages, backgrounds, and learning goals.
One thing that I learned early on is that language learners are rarely looking for exactly the same thing. So rather than following the same lesson sequence for every student, I prefer to build a learning plan around each learner's individual goals, interests, strengths, and challenges. A student who wants to improve business communication, for example, may require a very different approach form someone who wants to enjoy casual conversations with friends overseas.
My lesson planning is based on professional training teaching languages to non native speakers, as well as years of practical classroom experience. When Designing lessons, I draw inspiration from materials and methodologies developed by respected educational organizations, including Indonesian Online, The Japan Foundation, and the British Council.
In addition to using published resources, I often create original lesson materials, exercises, and activities to address specific learning objectives. This allows me to adapt lessons more effectively and provide learning experiences that are both structured and engaging.
Languages Beyond the Classroom
Besides working as a teacher, I worked as a Japanese-English-Indonesian interpreter and translator at a Japanese-Indonesian manufacturing company for more than 20 years.
One of the reasons I enjoy teaching languages is that I have experienced firsthand how languages connect people from different cultures and backgrounds. Whether it was interpreting a business meeting, tranlating technical documents, or helping colleagues communicate with one another, language was always at the center of my work.
Today, I bering that practical experience into my lessons.
A Little About My Interests
Outside of teaching, I enjoy photography, traveling, reading, cooking, and exploring new technology.
I am the type of person who enjoys experimenting with software and digital tools. Creating quizzes and exercises with Kahoot! often feels like solving a puzzle. I also enjoy exploring Zoom, digital whiteboards, and other educational technologies to make lessons more interative and enjoyable.
What Can We Look Forward To?
If you enjoy free conversation lessons, we can talk about many topics, including travel, culture, books, language learning, photography, food, everyday life, and current events.
If you prefer a structured learning plan, I can also help you work toward specific goals step by step.
Whether you are studying seriously or simply looking for a comfortable place to practice speaking, I would be happy to support your learning journey.
I look forward to meeting you in class!
