One dish I want to eat in winter

Name one dish you would like to have in winter?

Actually, I will be eating pretty much as normal throughout this winter.  My goal will be to get back on track with the so-called ‘keto diet’ which long experience has taught me is the style of eating that suits me best.  This way of eating (a much better name than ‘diet’) has only a few guidelines, the most fundamental of which are:

  1. Don’t eat processed food (As far as is humanly possible)
  2. Keep you carbs below 20g a day.
  3. Related to the above, avoid sugar (especially fructose) at all costs.
  4. Keep your healthy fat intake high.

By following these simple rules one can eat things like cheese omelettes, wafffles, fish, butter olive oil and so-on without worrying about calories.  You still lose weight very rapidly because the body does not manufacture unnecessary glucose and fat is used as the default fuel. It also makes your brain sharper because it actually prefers fat rather than glucose as fuel.

The problem at Christmas is that I want to celebrate it with ‘stollen.’ This delicious German cake has been a favorite of my wife and I for four years. We have always ordered it from Costco and enjoyed a slice a day for about 2 weeks.  Unfortunately, it is made of processed grain and contains a massive amount of sugar so it is not compatible with the keto diet.  I suppose, since my wife will be in hospital I can do with out it.  Perhaps I will buy it on sale next year (when it is out of season) and celebrate the joy of being alive with Kazuko.

Stay Warm,

Buri
