Express yourself using the second part of speech in the English language: The verb

課程介紹

     Objectives:
Students will be able to identify verbs in sentences.

Students will understand the concept of present and past tenses.

Students will use the correct tense to share personal experiences.

Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what a verb is. Write the word "Verb" on the flash card and explain that a verb is a word that shows action (e.g., "run," "jump") or a state of being (e.g., "is," "was").

Provide examples of verbs and ask students to identify them in the examples (e.g., "She dances," "They were happy"). Discuss these examples together.

     Main Activities (30 minutes):

Activity 1: Identifying Verbs (15 minutes)

Write several sentences or short paragraphs on the flash cards. Make sure they contain verbs. Here's an example: "She sings beautifully."

Ask students to identify the verbs in the sentences/paragraphs.

Write the identified verbs on the board and discuss their meanings briefly.

Activity 2: Present and Past Tenses (15 minutes)

Introduce the concept of present and past tenses. Explain that verbs can be in the present tense (e.g., "I play") or past tense (e.g., "I played").

Show flashcards with present tense verbs (e.g., "run," "eat") and their corresponding past tense forms (e.g., "ran," "ate"). Ask students to repeat the words and discuss the changes they notice when a verb changes tense.

Provide additional examples of verbs in both present and past tenses, and ask students to identify the tense of each verb.

      Practice and Application (15 minutes):

Give exercises related to identifying verbs and using the correct tense to share personal experiences. Include sentences where students need to change verbs from present to past tenses as closing activity.
Provide help and answer questions as needed.

     Conclusion (5 minutes):

Review the key points of the lesson: the definition of a verb, identifying verbs, and using the correct tense to share personal experiences.

Ask students to share a personal experience using both present and past tenses as a closing activity.

      Assessment:

Assess students' understanding through their participation in class discussions, their completion of the exercises, and their ability to correctly identify verbs and use the correct tense to share personal experiences.

     Homework :
Assign additional exercises or writing prompts for homework to reinforce the lesson.

     Extension Activity (optional):

For advanced learners, introduce future tense verbs and discuss how they differ from present and past tenses (e.g., "I will play").
