Who is this for?
Complete beginners to advanced learners — everyone is welcome!
For total beginners, I can add romaji to the dialogue so you can follow along easily.
What you'll gain
By reading your favorite character's lines out loud — with real emotion — you'll develop natural, expressive Japanese that goes far beyond textbook phrases.
Instead of just reading words on a page, you'll think about how the character felt when they said those words,which helps you understand the true meaning, nuance, and cultural context behind the language — and actually enjoy the process!
① Before the lesson
Send me a message beforehand with the manga title and the volume/page you'd like to use. I'll prepare a custom slide deck for our session and share my screen during the lesson.
② Voice acting (アテレコ experience)
We'll each take a role and read the lines as the characters — with feeling! Think of it as your own personal dubbing session.
③ Scene analysis & explanation
We'll break down the vocabulary, explore onomatopoeia (sound and mimetic words you won't find in textbooks), and dig into why the character said things the way they did.
④ After the lesson
The slide deck we used is yours to keep for review! Next time, we can continue from the same manga, try a completely different scene, or jump into something new entirely.
A few things to know
- I have manga beyond what's listed in my profile (Demon Slayer, NARUTO, Hunter × Hunter, Attack on Titan, and more).
- For titles I don't own, I may be able to source scenes through free manga apps — though some titles or scenes may not be available.
- Not sure if your favorite manga works? Just send me a message and we'll figure it out!
