レッスンの詳細
Do you want to communicate confidently with an architect or lead engineer on a software development project? Or do you want to be able to explain to non-technical decision-makers what they need for this technical implementation?
In either case, you must possess a really good vocabulary and understand what IT ideas and concepts this vocabulary explains. You must be able to explain complex abstract concepts in a language that everybody understands. The most frequent and, for some people, even terrifying question in IT is, "What do you mean?" This lesson will teach you to confidently handle the challenge of explaining things in IT. The flexible (!) structure of this lesson:
Part 1 — Opening: The "What do you mean?" problem (0–5 min)
...vocabulary gaps break communication between technical and non-technical people
Part 2 — Foundations: How software architecture is organised (5–20 min)
We will build a mental model of how software is structured and delivered
Part 3 — Core vocabulary: The terms that run every IT project (20–40 min)
Layers, libraries, frameworks, packages, services, web-services, protocols, and APIs... Want to use these terms and be sure you use them correctly?
Part 4 — Bridging: Engineering language ↔ business language (40-50 min)
Engineer's words vs Business words
Phase 5 — Wrap-up: Vocabulary recap and source sharing (50–60 min)
Let's recap the main vocabulary and share some really good sources for learning
As a result of this lesson, you will be able to leverage your use of both an engineering language and a business language for discussing IT projects.
I am explaining the concepts with diagrams and illustrations, and then providing real-world examples, so you grasp the most practical side of these concepts.
This is great for beginners and for anyone who is involved in IT projects in any non-technical role.
