Lesson Objective:The purpose of this article is to give you the skills to effectively make small talk with your business partners to build trustI was a grade-schooler when I first heard about a certain myth. It was said that if you complete all 9 dawn masses or Misa de Gallo, you could have one wish granted. And my first wish was to win the Interschool Essay Writing Contest!
Completing 9 dawn masses was a tedious process.
- I had to wake up as early as 2-3AM to walk to the nearest church.
- I endured the cold temperature while taking an early morning bath.
- At times, we even had to stand throughout the entire duration of the mass which usually takes over an hour because there were no more seats available.
At last, I was able to complete all 9 Dawn Masses and considering the practice sessions I had with my mentor, I was confident that my wish would come true! Unfortunately, that was my young heart’s greatest disappointment.
After crying my heart out , my parents consoled me and explained the true purpose of Misa de Gallo. It is a 9-morning mass in anticipation of the birth of Jesus at Christmas and it symbolizes new life and hope for a better future. It was also then when I realized that though we work so hard for what we desire, there are some things that are not meant for us.
I still attend Misa de Gallo every December. I still make wishes though most of them didn’t come true. Nonetheless, I know that the Dawn Mass wish is not simply a myth but a symbol of optimism for every hopeful Filipino.
