Lesson Objective:The purpose of this article is to give you the skills to effectively make small talk with your business partners to build trust

I was a grade-schooler when I first heard about a certain myth. It was said that if you complete all 9 dawn masses or Misa de Gallo, you could have one wish granted. And my first wish was to win the Interschool Essay Writing Contest!

Completing 9 dawn masses was a tedious process.

  1. I had to wake up as early as 2-3AM to walk to the nearest church.
  2. I endured the cold temperature while taking an early morning bath.
  3. At times, we even had to stand throughout the entire duration of the mass which usually takes over an hour because there were no more seats available.

 

At last, I was able to complete all 9 Dawn Masses and considering the practice sessions I had with my mentor, I was confident that my wish would come true! Unfortunately, that was my young heart’s greatest disappointment.

After crying my heart out , my parents consoled me and explained the true purpose of Misa de Gallo. It is a 9-morning mass in anticipation of the birth of Jesus at Christmas and it symbolizes new life and hope for a better future. It was also then when I realized that though we work so hard for what we desire, there are some things that are not meant for us.

I still attend Misa de Gallo every December. I still make wishes though most of them didn’t come true. Nonetheless, I know that the Dawn Mass wish is not simply a myth but a symbol of optimism for every hopeful Filipino.
