I have found that teaching students the fundamentals of producing sounds, helps bring an awareness to sounds they are unfamiliar with in the English language. They are more successful because they can begin to hear the differences between certain sounds, to be able to self correct when they practice on their own.
For students not used to sound symbol languages, this class is instrumental for understanding the various sounds from the American English Alphabet. This class either introduces new sounds to beginning students or helps higher level English speakers to practice and improve their pronunciations using specific techniques. Other tools and resources will be discussed, such as phonemic charts, etc.
