Discussions with an Anthropologist

課程介紹

Studying in the USA can be exciting — and overwhelming. Cultural differences can shape your friendships, classroom experiences, and even your confidence. In this relaxed, confidential space, you can talk openly with a Doctor of Anthropology who understands how culture shapes daily life — and how to help you thrive.

Whether you’re already in the USA or preparing to go, we’ll explore your experiences, frustrations, and successes, and discover practical ways to adapt while staying true to yourself. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the USA itself: its histories of ideas and culture, major changes, social movements, political thought, religions, and the everyday rituals that form the fabric of American life.

  • Share your experiences and frustrations about life in the USA

  • Explore the “hidden rules” of American culture and communication

  • Discuss challenges in social life, academics, and professional settings

  • Learn strategies to adapt while keeping your identity intact

  • Understand cultural differences through an anthropological lens

  • Discover U.S. holidays, celebrations, and rituals — from federal to local to religious

  • Learn how culture and history influence social norms and behavior

  • Recognize when “what people say” and “what people do” differ — and why

  • Make the most of your time as a visiting scholar: education, networking, friendships

  • Build social and professional networks that can last a lifetime

  • Appreciate your experience in the USA on a deeper level
