Do you want to discuss the issues you have, with school , friends or learning?. I will be an ear for you. Master conversations in English while also expressing your feelings.

Description

1. Introduction

  • Icebreaker Activity: Start with a simple activity where students say one word that describes how they are feeling today.
  • Objective Explanation: Explain the objective of the lesson and why discussing feelings is important.

2. Understanding Emotions

  • Discussion: What are emotions? Why do we have them?
    • Use the whiteboard to write down different emotions students mention (happy, sad, angry, excited, etc.).
  • Feeling Words Handout: Distribute handouts that list a variety of emotions and feeling words.
  • Group Activity: Divide students into small groups and have them come up with examples of situations where someone might feel each emotion listed on their handouts.

3. Why It's Important to Talk About Feelings

  • Discussion Points:
    • Helps you understand yourself better.
    • Builds stronger relationships.
    • Helps resolve conflicts.
    • Reduces stress and anxiety.
  • Examples and Scenarios: Provide real-life scenarios where discussing feelings led to positive outcomes.

4. How to Discuss Your Feelings

  • Steps to Expressing Feelings:
    1. Identify the feeling.
    2. Choose the right time and place.
    3. Use "I" statements (e.g., "I feel...").
    4. Be specific about what caused the feeling.
    5. Suggest what you need or want.
  • Role-Playing: Use scenario cards to practice discussing feelings. Pair students and have them role-play different scenarios, using the steps outlined.

5. Active Listening

  • Discussion: What is active listening and why is it important?
  • Active Listening Techniques:
    • Pay full attention.
    • Show that you are listening (nod, eye contact).
    • Reflect back what you heard.
    • Ask questions if you’re not sure.
    • Avoid interrupting.
  • Practice Exercise: In pairs, one student expresses a feeling while the other practices active listening, then switch roles.

6. Wrap-Up and Reflection

  • Group Discussion: Share thoughts and experiences from the role-playing exercises. How did it feel to discuss feelings? How did it feel to actively listen?
  • Reflection Activity: Ask students to write a short reflection on what they learned about discussing feelings and how they can apply it in their lives.
  • Q&A: Address any questions or concerns students might have.
