This lesson will focus on verb patterns.
Warmer: I will give student 5 sentences however each of these sentences will be broken up. The student must correctly rearrange these sentences by matching up the first part with the second. This exercise will last 2-3 mins.
Presentation: I will present the different rules associated with this grammar topic. These rules will include the use of infinitive with to, infinitive without to, the gerund and others. I will address any questions the student may have here. I will also present a table with examples of different verbs. This part of the lesson will last 10 mins.
Practice: Here, I will give the student two grammar exercises. The first will be a gap-filled exercise where the student will have to use the correct form of the verb. The second exercise will involve the student rewritting sentences so that they mean the same as the first. This part of the lesson will last 15-20 mins.
Production: This part will focus on speaking. Here, I will ask the student 5-10 random questions. Each question will be missing a word. The student will have to answer these questions using the correct verb pattern. Once this is done, we will discuss the question in detail. This part of the lesson will last 15-20 mins.
Cooler: I will give the student 10 questions. Each question will be a sentence that has mutiple answers. The student will need to pick the correct answer to finish the sentence. This lesson will show me what the student has learned in this lesson. This will last 5-8 mins.
Homework: Homework will be given to this student upon completion of this lesson. Answers will also be provided.
Learning Objectives:
The student can use verb patterns such as gerunds, infinitives with/without to and others.
The student can use these verb patterns in forming sentence and in conversations.
The student can identify when to use the correct verb patterns.
