Description

For this lesson, I currently offer 13 Reasons WhyThe Giver, Animal Farm, The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya, Why Not Me?, and Mr. Mercedes, but if you have a different book, or need a book at a lower level, please tell me in a message when you choose the lesson so that I can prepare the right book for you!!

In this lesson, we will do one of the following:
1. I will read each paragraph or section out loud first, then you will read the paragraph or sentence out loud, and I will immediately correct anything you mispronounce. After reading the section or paragraph, we will go over each word and sentence that you need help understanding.

OR

2. You will read each paragraph or section (without me reading it first), and I will immediately correct anything you mispronounce. After reading the section or paragraph, we will go over each word and sentence that you need help understanding.

If you do not have the book, I can send it to you through email, message, or Skype.

Sample Passage: 13 Reasons Why (Jay Asher)
A plastic door eases open and I slide in the first tape.
Hello boys and girls. Hannah Baker here. Live and In stereo.
I don't believe it.
No return engagements. No encore. And this time, absolutely no requests.
No, I can't believe it. Hannah Baker killed herself.

Sample Passage: The Giver (Lois Lowry)
Jonas smiled back at his sister. Lily's feelings were always straightforward, fairly simple, usually easy to resolve. He guessed that his own had been, too, when he was a Seven.

Sample passage: Animal Farm (George Orwell)
He seldom talked, and when he did, it was usually to make some cynical remark - for instance, he would say that God had given him a tail to keep the flies off, but that he would sooner have had no tail and no flies.

Sample passage: The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya (Tanigawa Nagaru)
Haruhi called it a day after assigning Asahina her costume and announcing the cast. Actually, she apparently wanted to drag Asahina around in her waitress outift and hold a press conference for her upcoming film...

Sample passage: Why Not Me? (nonfiction, Mindy Kaling)
There are two things Mindy Kaling likes cold: beer and beauty masks. The mask also makes me look like Hannibal Lecter, but at least he was human, after all. After the potions from the mask seep into my skin, Cindy peels it off and I look like a woman you might want to be friends with.

Sample passage: Mr. Mercedes (Stephen King)
New chemicals and computer-assisted scanning processes can pick up excellent fingerprints from paper, but Hodges knows that if he turns this letter in to Forensics, they will find no prints on it but his. This guy is crazy, but his self-assessment - one crafty perp - is absolutely correct.
