I hope you are doing well.
The autumn is here, the weather is slowly becoming milder.
As Fitzgerald wrote in 'The Great Gatsby': "Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall."
From next week I'll have some times blocked off regularly on Mondays and Thursdays, when I'm teaching courses at Sophia Uni and doing some research work for Keio Uni.
This year all my teaching for the universities is online.
Of course this will be familiar to you :)
But for the uni students it is new and unusual.
So the staff at universities is working hard to support them and make them relaxed, to help them focus on their studies and on making friends.
If you are interested in some of the topics I will be working on let me know.
Besides my usual topics (philosophy, news, AI, English, wellbeing and mental health) I'm happy to discuss the subjects of my lessons too.
At Sophia Uni I'll be running an Ethics Course.
This will deal with some connections between religion, and human agency - the ability of humans to act freely and responsibily.
With my team at Keio I'll be working on non-observational self-knowledge: how is it possible that we know what we are doing intentionally without observation or thinking about it? It seems to be a special type of knowledge. My research looks at the different ideas about the origin of this kind of knowledge.
I'll also give a guest lecture on ethics later on in the year about the importance of values, compassion and empathy in business.
