A young woman sacrificed to the river..?

August 15 marks the beginning of Wafaa El-Nil, the Festival of the Nile; a celebration that goes all the way back to Ancient Egypt.
 

 
 

Over time, a particularly unsettling legend became associated with it: the story of a young woman given to the river.
 

 
 

It’s a fittingly chilling story to encounter in the middle of August..
