My name is Silva.

I'm here to help you improve your English!

I'm an American from Texas and a world traveler.

I've lived in Portugal and France. Currently, I live in Spain.



Focus

My main focus areas include: 

~ English for Young Learners (7 to 14 year olds)
~ Conversational English for Adults
~ IELTS study preparation and support

Teaching Style
During our lessons, I will help you to refine the use of expressions you naturally use. We will do this by building our lessons around your responses.
 
I believe this technique works because it focuses on teaching you expressions and vocabulary that match your actual needs. You will also receive grammar corrections and guidance as we go along. 
 
Together, we will develop English that fits your personality and natural way of speaking.
 
 
Listening:
I speak in a clear and consistent way that will help you to train your ears to common words. I'm able to divide sounds into parts so you can more easily understand its components.
 
 
Pronunciation:
I'm also well experienced with teaching sounds that are less familiar to East Asian language groups. I can help you with: 
 
~the English "L" for Japanese and Korean speakers, 
~the syllables in "usually" for Chinese speakers

Pace:
Lessons follow a gentle pace. We will take our time to comfortably understand material.

Vocabulary: 
We'll go over key expressions and learn new words together.
As part of our routine, we'll practice building phrases using these expressions. 

After-Class Report:
All lessons come with an After-Class Report.
You receive this report after you finish your lesson. It will include
1) all key words and expressions learned during our lesson
2) grammar corrections from your spoken responses
3) example sentences using new vocabulary
4) and more! 

 
Teaching Background
I started my teaching career in Korea and my students include nuclear engineers, business executives, students, and international government agencies.

My students use their English every day in real-world situations. I'm confident that you will too.

 
About Me
I worked for many years as a software engineer before I realized I was passionate about teaching.

Because of my strong business and technical background, I'm well prepared to teach professionals in these fields.

 
Interests
I love writing stories, walking in nature, drawing and painting. I think Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cultures are fascinating.
 

Personal Perspective
I find that speaking another language opens our world views to new possibilities. 

If we can communicate with more people, we will grow more profoundly as individuals.

I also think we are able to understand our own culture better by experiencing the cultures of others first.

Together I believe we can achieve international cooperation and peace when we realize that we are actually all very similar.
